Internet Search for Apple Products.

Below we present charts that show the internet search frequency of Apple products. This posting accompanies the Blog “Apple has lost its hype bite.”

Search for all major Apple products combined is declining. The iPhone (light blue on bottom of stack) is so dominant, that its decline alone pulls the combined search lower! However, its not just the iPhone search that is declining.

The iPod reached popularity in the early 00’s (dark blue line in chart above). Apple proved to be able to keep search for its product at a high level for multiple years. Although the highest product launch peak as late 2005, underlying trend for iPod search was relatively stable untille the arrival of the iPad. By 2019 there is almost no search for the iPod anymore. Apple only carries a single version of the once sizable product lineup.  The iPad quickly reached similar levels of search as the iPod, making it a great replacement. However, search for the famous tablet started to decline faster than the iPod. However, today search is still at a very respectable level of nearly 200.000.SeaSes  Search for the iOS software only peaked above the iPad in 2013. Apple’s Homepod is not a splendid success. After a rather low peak of 8.000, search declined and keeps trending down.  The new earphones, the Airpods are slowly catching on and trending up, but at a rather modest level.

Apple’s stronghold on digital music has disappeared. The iTunes app reached a peak of 320.000, but has declined by 85%. Its replacement Apple Music, is lagging significantly behind market leader Spotify.

Finally, last but not least. Apple Pay is trending up. It got launched together with the iPhone 6. The product launch hype level of 12.000 was not bad, considering people couldn’t really use it in many places yet. A few years later, with mobile payment revolution in full swing, Apple Pay is finally breaking through its product launch peak.
